I’ve been looking at various online tools to help me run my software contracting and product development business. There are a lot of pieces, and none of the online applications make me happy yet. I’m also dissatisfied with having to bring so many disparate pieces together. So far I’m managing by using a Web Desktop, www.protopage.com to keep links in one convenient place. One of the tools I’ve found is Joe’s Goals, www.joesgoals.com, which is a little online app that keeps track of those tasks that I do, or want to do regularly. What’s great is that this doesn’t overwhelm my task list because it’s separate. This is useful in product development because it’s important to touch all of my active projects at least once a week to keep momentum going, and to not forget things like a daily walk, a research break etc. What I’d really like is to have this as a task list option where I keep my tasks. This might be a little widget to add to BaseCamp or BackPack or TaDa Lists or even the Plaxo app with it’s tasks section. As another intuitive alternative, making this a special view on a calendar would work nicely too. Perhaps a GreaseMonkey script to go with google calendar, a button to show my daily/weekly repetitive tasks and whether I did them or not - a view for today with all tasks and a view showing tasks that I did. Repetitive tasks would be recurring events but need to be marked completed or something. Have to think how to shoehorn that in. It would be nice to avoid another app altogether. This would be a good widget to add to a number of places, like plaxo, facebook, myspace, google etc, all tying back to the main application site for configuration, setup, reporting etc. Anyway, that’s all for today
